Default Celine Dion has clearly lost it or just pimping the media for attention

So bad it's almost uncomfortable. Good thing some drug store chains are opne 24 hours a day.

Paxil-deprived rant

Hahaha, I think she made a stop at a street drug store before showing up for that.

I normally don't watch Larry King (biggest... softball... interviewer... EVAR) but after hearing about this, I tuned into the replay. All I can say is... WOW. Can we say, "Totally detached from reality?" Like all the other "celebs", she needs to just stay in her isolated little bubble and leave the real world to those of us who actually LIVE in it.

I heard this interview...or snippets of it....a week or so ago. The woman has slipped off the planet, if she ever had feet here in the first place. If she so wants to "let them TOUCH the things", why doesn't she open her home to a couple hundred refugees and allow them to touch HER stuff?

At least she admits, "I really can't sing."

No kidding.

I don't understand why you don't like the interview. Can someone explain?

I really like the song she sang. It's from an animated film I used to watch when I was younger. The Corrs and LeAnn Rimes sang in it as well, good movie. The duet with Andrea Bocelli was at the end and was wicked. I love Andrea Bocelli.

One word: Histrionics

And histrionics allow her to deviate from rationality, where she's quick to draw outlandish conclusions, like justifying the looting. What she doesn't want to see is that many of the looters are shooting at rescue workers and hindering rescue efforts. At a time of crisis she'll be emotionally drawn and immensely sympathetic to the poor, but when it's all over she likely won't give a damn.

She's so invested in the drama and emotion (not that it isn't genuine) it's hard for her to see beyond herself. Her hand gestures alone are unconsciously theatrical. And 85% of her sentences begin with "I."

Oh, okay. Well I liked the interview. I won't lie, I have no idea what's going on over there, but I thought she was completely genuine. She's a very emotional person, and her hand gestures are who she is. Come on, we've all see her sing. That's just her.

I can't deny I can understand why some people might find her patronising and detatched though.

Well I don't doubt she's immensely sympathetic to those in need at this moment of crisis, but when it's all over, she likely won't give a damn. That's a presumption on my part - but it's based on my clinical opinion after having treated psych patients in the Westmidlands (schizophrenia, anorexia with psychosis, OCD etc. ) during my training.

So my reaction is just a reflection of my cynicism about the attention someone like her would get.

according to police the poor looters went after liquor stores jewelry store and gun shops and high priced electronics/high value anything items and NOT BASIC SURVIVAL THINGS LIKE FOOD AND WATER

robbery for personal profit not a poor person simply trying to survive.

some of these *poor looters* were using the stolen guns on rescuers as well as other victems of the flooding.

i feel any looter caught shooting at rescuers should be shot. on sight

Genuine? If she's so genuine, then why not (as Aniewiel suggested) open HER home to let "those poor people" touch HER things. She's just like every other spoiled celebrity. They lecture us "common folk" for not agreeing with them, but they barely lift a finger themselves. Complete and total hypocrisy.

Granted, she's donated $1,000,000 to the Red Cross which is no paltry sum. However, given that she makes something along the lines of 50-100,000,000 per year, that's hardly a drop in the bucket.

Still, I call on Celine to open her home and take in several families (that, I'm sure, would easily fit within her Vegas mansion). Humble common families here in Phoenix have done so. Now it's time for the rich and big-housed to do likewise or shut the f- up.

I think she was genuine and generous. I don't like the hate peole here seem to have for her. There are big companies with billions in profit why don't they open up their skyscrapers and let some families live there. Making her open up her home is nonsense (unless she lives nearby the victims, I don't know). She donated a lot, she sang (raises spirits/gives sympathy) and she expressed what a lot of people are feeling - sadness and anger at what happened and the state of the recovery effort. And she made herself look pretty stupid while doing it, makes me think she's wasn't putting on an act. The quality of the video was bad so I couldn't see her expressions in detail or her gestures.

Y'know I could still see a generous person who donates 1 million but still keeps their home private. But what bothers me most about Celine is that, when the drama is all done, she won't give a rat's ass about the poor and needy that will, no doubt, remain in New Orleans.

I don't hate her but I do not like being lectured by her either. Refugees have been sent to every major metropolis in the US. They are in Vegas (her hometown) and she certainly could take them in.

As for major US corporations, it was illustrated about a week ago that they are, indeed, giving heavily to every aspect of relief.

The problem with people like Celine Dion who obviously feels genuine sadness at the events in N.O. is that they lecture "the little guys" about what they should be doing. And, frankly, excusing looters was just dumb. The best thing for celebrities and politicians to do at a time like this is to shut up and stop posturing for the media and go down to the Gulf Coast (since many more lives were destroyed than just those in N.O.) and get their hands dirty. They can afford to leave their jobs and do just that.

Celine needs to just keep doing what she's doing and stay off-camera.

And that is the true tragedy. The powerful simply don't care... and that goes for movie stars, athletes, politicians, you name it. It's a great opportunity for them to score easy points with us "common folk". They kiss babies, they sign checks, they hold press conferences... but at the end of the day, they go back to their huge mansions in their private communities, far from the world the rest of us live in.

Yes there are exceptions. Curt Schilling (a truly good guy in the sports world) opened his home to a family from the Gulf Coast. So yes Celine, you can do it too. Many of those in the NO Saints organization lost their homes, so they paid a price too.

But overall... they just don't TRULY care. That goes for Republicans and Democrats, liberals or conservatives.

I hate to quote myself but I just did.

Anyone of "power", be it celebrity, politics, sports or whatever needs to do just what I said above. It's not about politics right now. It's not about anything other than lifting our fellow-citizens out of the literal and figurative mire and helping them rebuild their lives.

You are so right about Schilling. He IS a great guy and a wonderful role-model for the rest of the celeb-world. I wish the rest of them would take note and follow suit.

It's a no win situation. If celebrities show their support then they'll be blamed for not doing enough. If they show NO support, well.. that's obvious.

You say after it all, she won't give a rat's arse. Well, who will? People over here will most likely forget about it within a few months cos out of sight out of mind. It's not even really about being selfish.

She can't open her home to people who've lost theirs, that's not realistic. Celebrities are just normal people who have been put in the limelight. They're just normal people with more money. There's nothing wonderful or super about them. There are HUNDREDS of non famous millionaires in America, China, Japan, the Uk.. WHEREVER.
Do you see them donating and opening their homes?

Celebrities have a responsability to publicise their opinions and support of world matters. It will sometimes gain them favour but nearly every other time they'll be critasised, scrutenised and told they're not doing enough.

I think it's a hard life being a celebrity. I mean, all of you with spare bedrooms.. are going out there and picking up tramps? Of course you're not, but no-one sees this to have a go at you.

It goes without saying, I respect your honest (and fair) opinion.
You're right about celebrities in general ... but Celine Dion has become such a pop-kitsch icon it's quite fun to take a shot at her at every opportunity.

-----
OK I confess, it's because I'm jealous...
...she has...
and I have not...

...I'm gonna go steal some Levis now ... with Ms. Dion's blessing, of course ...
